Vladyslav Sukhobrus joined ShipMonk in 2022 as a packer. It wasn’t meant to be a temporary role, but it also wasn’t where he intended to stay. He was starting fresh, building from scratch, learning a new country and a new company at the same time.
He joined ShipMonk’s Toronto warehouse as a packer. From there, he became a PIT and process trainer, then a warehouse lead.
Then Franklin Castro, Sr. Director of CX, saw an opportunity.
Franklin recognized that Vladyslav understood the operation, but was also interested in more than completing the work in front of him. He was looking at how things worked, where they could improve, and what else he could take on.
Franklin brought him into Customer Experience as a liaison.
That was a significant shift. Vladyslav went from working inside the operation to helping merchants navigate it. He had to learn a different side of the business and develop a new set of skills.
He became a senior liaison, then Customer Experience Manager for Special Projects.
In a few years, he had moved from packing orders to managing complex work across the business.
The common thread wasn’t a specific degree or experience in every role he took on. It was a willingness to take on the next problem.
Taking Ownership Before the Title
“When you’re starting from a blank sheet, there’s nothing to lose and everything to gain. So I just started,” Vladyslav says.
His approach is straightforward: if he sees something that could work better, he tries to understand the problem, connect the right people, and move the idea forward.
Sometimes that means a small process improvement. Sometimes it means rebuilding something much larger.
“The magic isn’t the idea. It’s owning it and seeing it through.”
That mindset followed him through every role.
As a packer, he looked for ways to improve the work. As a trainer, he focused on how others learned it. As a liaison, he began looking at the operation through the merchant’s experience. As a manager, he brings those perspectives together.
Each role gave him a different view of the business. Each one prepared him for the next.
Growth Doesn’t Always Look Like a Plan
Vladyslav’s career at ShipMonk wasn’t a straight line toward a predetermined role. Each move came from taking on something new, learning what he didn’t know, and proving he could handle more responsibility.
That process also changed how he approaches challenges outside of work.
The habits are similar: identify what needs to change, figure out what you can control, and start moving.
For Vladyslav, growth has become less about waiting until you’re fully ready and more about being willing to begin.
A Different Way to Build a Career
Vladyslav’s story is a good example of what career growth can look like at ShipMonk.
He didn’t join with experience in every role he would eventually hold. He developed that experience over time.
The company gave him opportunities to move into unfamiliar territory. Leaders like Franklin helped him navigate those transitions. Vladyslav did the work of learning each new role and taking ownership of the problems that came with it.
In 2022, he was packing orders in a Toronto warehouse.
Today, he manages Special Projects within Customer Experience.
The path between those two roles wasn’t mapped out in advance. It was built one opportunity, one challenge, and one new responsibility at a time.
