The hidden cost of carrier adjustments
Carriers pick up packages and apply adjustments for measurements, weights, or surcharges you didn't expect. Most brands lack the infrastructure to fight back and absorb the costs unknowingly.
We don't just audit invoices, we stop bad charges completely
Most 3PLs pass carrier adjustments through to merchants. If something looks wrong, the burden of catching it falls on you.
ShipMonk is different. Our system monitors every carrier adjustment against known shipment details. Those needing review are held by our Transportation team until resolved. That visibility extends across your entire operation from real-time inventory to fulfillment analytics.
Real impact
Across ShipMonk’s merchant base, Carrier Overcharge Protection has eliminated adjustments for brands of every size. In some cases, more than 50% of a brand’s total carrier adjustments have been prevented.
For high-volume shippers, what looks like a small per-shipment figure compounds into a meaningful annual line item at scale.
Only ShipMonk offers this coverage as a built-in benefit
This isn’t an add-on or a premium plan feature. ShipMonk monitors and blocks invalid carrier surcharges on every eligible order, at no extra cost.
FAQ
Do I need to sign up or enable anything?
No. Carrier Overcharge Protection is active automatically for all eligible shipments. No enrollment, no configuration, no settings to change.
What shipments are covered?
All VCN shipments (ShipMonk Economy, Standard, 2-Day, and Hazmat) and direct carrier-mapped shipments where ShipMonk generates the label and is billed by the carrier. Bill to 3rd Party orders, custom label shipments, and freight are not covered.
What happens when ShipMonk's Transportation team reviews an adjustment?
Adjustments flagged for review are held before being passed to your invoice. Our Transportation team evaluates whether the adjustment is valid. If it isn’t, it’s dropped. If it is, it appears on your invoice with an explanation of why it was validated.
Does this cover every kind of carrier billing error?
The policy covers the three primary categories where carrier overcharges are most likely: billable weight deviations on box shipments, impossible dimensional weight on soft packaging, and unexpected surcharges on any packaging type. It is designed to catch the most common and most impactful categories of erroneous adjustments.
How much does Carrier Overcharge Protection cost?
It’s included at no additional cost for all eligible shipments. There’s no separate fee — it’s a built-in benefit of ShipMonk’s fulfillment service.
Can I see which adjustments were blocked on my behalf?
Yes. Blocked adjustments are visible in your ShipMonk portal under billing details. You can see the original carrier adjustment, the reason it was flagged, and whether it was blocked or validated.
Why does ShipMonk offer this when other 3PLs don't?
Most 3PLs pass carrier adjustments through as a standard practice because auditing and disputing them requires infrastructure, expertise, and time. ShipMonk built Carrier Overcharge Protection because we believe your shipping costs should reflect what you actually shipped — not inflated measurements or invalid surcharges. It’s part of our commitment to transparent, auditable billing.
