[2017] Shipping Carrier Rate Increases

Each year, the major shipping couriers change their rates and this year is no exception. On average, rates are increasing between 3 - 5%. In spite of this, as your fulfillment center, we’re doing everything we can to negotiate with the carriers to keep your current rates the same.

 

Below is an outline of the highlighted rate changes as well as a few things you should be aware of when it comes to shipping in 2017.

 

FedEx Shipping Rate Changes

  • FedEx Express package and freight standard list rates increased an average of 3.9% for U.S., U.S. export and U.S. import services.

  • FedEx Ground and FedEx Home Delivery standard list rates increased an average of 4.9%

 

 

FedEx Dimensional Weight Changes (effective January 2, 2017)

  • Applies to FedEx Express and FedEx Ground packages.

  • Previously the dimensional weight was calculated by dividing the package length x width x height of each package by 166. They are now using a dimensional factor of 139.

FedEx Surcharge Increases (effective January 2, 2017)

 

 

FedEx Fuel Surcharge (effective February 6, 2017)

  • Subject to weekly adjustment

 

 

Other FedEx Rate Changes (effective January, 2017)

  • FedEx International Premium rates changed.

  • Minimum rates for FedEx Express services changed.

  • FedEx Ground Multiweight rates changed.

  • FedEx SmartPost rates changed.

 

 

 

 

USPS Shipping Rate Changes (effective January 22, 2017)

Priority Mail

  • First Class Mail will see a significant increase for packages between 13-16oz.

  • Priority Mail will see an average increase of 4.5%

 

 

Flat Rate Changes

  • Flat rate services will see a $0.40 increase, making it $0.05 more expensive than using a Small Flat Rate Box.

 

 

Internati onal Services

  • There are no rate increases on Priority Mail International, Priority Mail Express International, or First-Class Mail International Package Service.

 

 

 

UPS Rate Changes

  • Daily rates for UPS Ground service will increase an average net 4.9%.

  • Daily rates for UPS Air and International services will increase an average net 4.9%.

  • Retail SurePost Rate Changes (effective January 8, 2017)

 

 

UPS Dimensional Weight Changes (effective January 8, 2017)

  • U.S. domestic services packages that measure greater than 1,728 cubic inches will use a 139 divisor to calculate dimensional weight. U.S. domestic services packages less than or equal to 1,728 cubic inches will continue to use a 166 divisor to calculate dimensional weight. UPS Standard from Canada import shipments will use a 139 divisor to calculate dimensional weight.

 

 

UPS Fuel Surcharge (effective February 6, 2017)

  • Subject to weekly adjustment

 

Additional Surcharge Changes

 

 

 

DHL Rate Changes

  • Shipping rates for DHL Express international services will increase by an average of 4.9%.(effective on January 2, 2017)

  • Address Correction will increase from $13.00 per shipment to $14.00 per shipment

  • Change of Billing will increase from $13.00 per shipment to $14.00 per shipment

  • Residential Delivery will increase from $3.65 per shipment to $3.85 per shipment

 

 

Dimensional Weight Changes

  • The dimensional weight for shipments between the U.S. and Puerto Rico will be calculated by multiplying the length by width by height of each package in inches and dividing the total by 139. Previously, dimensional weight for all shipments between the U.S. and Puerto Rico was calculated by dividing the total by 166.
